The 56th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 26th April 1864 over the Rowley Mile, was General Peel (7/2), a chestnut colt by Young Melbourne out of Daughter of Orlando, owned by the 5th Earl of Glasgow, trained at Tupgill, Middleham by Tom Dawson and ridden by Tom Aldcroft. The winner won by a length in 1 minute 48.50 secs, with a length back to the third. A field of 13 runners contested the race which was worth 4500 sovereigns (Equivalent to £522,000 in 2017)
